Parador Merida is one of the Parador Hotel, located on the "Ruta de la Plata" – which may be the most ancient in Europe. Built by the Romans, the road became known (Plato) the nature of the stone, as has been paved – name balatha.
Merida Parador is housed in a building that was a very long history. E 'managed by the Romans, Visigoths, Moors and Christians, and helped the time to be a Roman forum and temple, a mosque, a church, ahospital, a prison – and now also a beautiful Parador Hotel.
Most of the ancient remains of the Parador Merida ruins of the monastery was built by the Franciscans in the 15th century. Has a beautiful courtyard surrounded by arches supported by marble columns. The lounge is the former chapel and has a very beautiful ceiling. Parador Merida has a tranquil air and is truly one of the most beautiful in the Parador chain.
The city of Merida is a charminghistory. Around 25 BC, founded by the Romans, was at a time, one of the most beautiful cities throughout Iberia and was actually the capital of Lusitania (the Roman name for what we now call Portugal). There are more Roman ruins than elsewhere in Spain, and make a professional website.
Interestingly, nearby hiking Parador de Merida in the city and the environment in the vicinity:
– The Roman Bridge: a half mile long, was the longest Roman bridge builtSpain. It is now closed to traffic so you can walk quietly and peacefully in the Guadiana River and get back in town.
– The Roman Amphitheater: When was that in 1 AC – The Grand Place, 15 thousand – who came to see the car races and gladiator battles and false (actually invaded the scene so mock ships could float in the amphitheater !).
– The Roman Aqueduct: Aqueduct de los Milagros, is notalmost as well preserved as in Segovia, but has a "ghost" feel to it, and harken back to pre-biblical times.
– The Alcazaba: This relatively well-preserved Moorish castle-fortress was later used by the Knights of Santiago.
– The National Museum of Roman Art: Well worth a visit – which contains a number of interesting archaeological finds from Roman times.
– There are many other beautiful things to see in Merida – try to stay a couple of days to doJustice beautiful city.
Interesting day trips from Merida Parador include:
– Caceres: 68 km to the north is one of the "monumental city in Spain and declared World Heritage City by UNESCO.
– Trujillo: 90 km away – Trujillo is a fee simple. . . Spain, as it once was, and a square to rival any other in Spain.
– Zafra: 60 kilometers south – Zafra is a pleasant place to visit (and there is a Parador whichfor you to be with you, if you prefer).
Merida Parador is a nice place to live, and is located in one of the most interesting cities that you will ever visit. Not hesitate to enjoy this unique combination of experience, if you ever travel in this "out-back" area of Spain – Extremadura in the west too.
